Mike Courteau

ESL Writing Specialist and Workplace English Instructor​

Mike Courteau has taught English composition and literature for twenty-one years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master of Arts in Education from Saint Mary’s University, and a Master of Fine Arts from Hamline University where he was the recipient of the W. Quay Grigg Award for Excellence in Literary Study and a finalist for outstanding thesis in fiction. He currently teaches English composition and literature in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

In addition to studying English, Mike is a fluent Spanish speaker. He studied Spanish at El Proyecto Lingüístico Quetzalteco de Español in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and played baseball for a local team. After living and studying in Guatemala, Mike worked as a bilingual staffing coordinator for a local employment agency. An avid cyclist, Mike cycles more than 2000 miles each year and once rode a mountain bike across Nicaragua.
