The right decision depends on where employees work, what they need to practice, how comfortable they are with technology, and when they can attend.
When in-person training is a strong fit
Onsite classes work especially well for a single location and a frontline team. The instructor can use the actual workspace, signs, equipment, forms, and situations in the lesson. Coworkers can practice together, and employees do not need to manage a video platform.
In-person training does require instructor availability, travel, space, and coordination with the operation.
When live online training is a strong fit
Online classes can bring employees from multiple states or locations into the same program. They are often easier to schedule for executives, remote employees, and teams with changing calendars. One-on-one coaching also works very well online because it offers privacy and flexibility.
Participants need reliable internet, an appropriate device, and a place where they can speak and participate. Good facilitation is important for keeping the class active.
Hybrid may be the real answer
A company can use onsite ESL for one manufacturing plant, online Spanish for supervisors in several locations, and private coaching for an executive. The format should match each group instead of forcing one option across the organization.
Before choosing, ask:
- Where is the target group located?
- What work materials or equipment need to be part of the class?
- What schedule can employees sustain?
- Which technology and privacy needs must be addressed?
