At Workplace Languages, our core focus is bridging communication gaps and empowering employees through practical language training. Much of our day-to-day work happens behind the scenes. We spend our time building curricula, matching instructors, and tracking progress. Because of this, we don't always have the opportunity to be on the ground for the culminating moments of these programs. However, we recently had the profound privilege of traveling to Kohler, Wisconsin, to attend a graduation ceremony for employees who successfully completed our beginner-level ESL (English as a Second Language) training.
The experience was nothing short of inspiring.
Seeing the real-world application of newly acquired skills is the ultimate reward for any educational initiative. During the ceremony, each graduate stepped forward to receive their certificate. But they didn't stop there. In front of their supervisors and company leadership, these individuals took the floor to speak entirely in English. They expressed their gratitude for the opportunity, thanked their instructor, and shared personal reflections on what developing these language skills meant to their daily lives and careers.
Public speaking is daunting enough; doing it in a developing language in front of corporate leadership takes an immense amount of courage. Witnessing their confidence and pride was an emotional moment for our team and a true testament to the dedication these employees poured into their coursework.
The warmth and hospitality we received extended well beyond the graduation ceremony. The following day, our team and the English instructor were treated to an exclusive tour ofz Kohler's Cast Iron Division, personally guided by the Plant Manager, Kirk.
For those of us who spend our time focused on corporate education and linguistics, stepping onto the floor of a working foundry was an unforgettable experience. The sheer scale of the operation was staggering, and Kirk’s generosity with his time gave us a fascinating glimpse into a world we rarely see. We could have spent hours asking questions about the massive, incredible operation taking place right there in Kohler.
We want to extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone at the Kohler organization for their time, welcoming spirit, and hospitality during this fun and informative visit. It is incredibly rewarding to work alongside a company that demonstrates such profound care and support for their workforce.
